It was introduced in 1955 as the Smith & Wesson Military & Police (M&P) revolver. The M&P designation was later changed to Model 19 for civilian sales. The Model 19 has a six-round capacity and is chambered for .357 Magnum cartridges. The 15-3 was made from '67 to '76. The diamond grips were eliminated in '68. S&W can probably provide an exact date based on the serial number.
